A Tour of the D-Day Beaches and BattlefieldsLocation - Normandy, France. Duration - Approximately 3 Days.
A tour of the beaches of Normandy where the Allied 21st Army Group landed to begin the liberation of Northwest Europe from under the yoke of Hitler's Nazi Germany on D-Day, 6 June 1944. The tour begins on the Cotentin Peninsula in the west where two US Airborne Divisions, the 82nd 'All American' and 101st 'Screaming Eagles', landed during the night of 5/6 June 1944 to secure the western flank of the invasion area behind UTAH Beach and the all important river crossings over the River Merderet near Sainte-Mère-Eglise. It continues with a visit to the American landing at UTAH Beach before ending the first day with a visit to the German Military Cemetery at La Cambé. Day two concentrates on Pointe-du-Hoc and OMAHA Beach. Day three visits the main sites of GOLD Beach including the Longues-sur-Mer Coastal Battery and Mulberry Harbour before ending the tour with the actions of the British 6th Airborne Division in the east at Pegasus Bridge, Bénouville. The Tour Itinerary is: -
During the tour there are three recommended stops at three museums: The Musée du Débarquement UTAH at Le Madeleine; the Musée du Débarquement at Arromanches and the Memorial Pegasus at Bénouville. You also visit three of the Normandy War Cemeteries: The German War Cemetery at La Cambé; the American Military Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer and the British CWGC Cemetery at Ranville.
