A Bridge Too Far, Arnhem

 Arnhem Drop

Parachute drop at Arnhem.

A four-day/three-night tour of the ambitious attempt by the Allied Airborne Forces to capture the five key bridges that stood between Field Marshal Montgomery's 2nd British Army and the frontier of Hitler's Germany.  The US 101st 'Screaming Eagles' Airborne Division were responsible for capturing the first two bridges at Eindhoven and the US 82nd 'All American' Airborne Division the next two at Nijmagen.  The fifth and ultimate bridge was assigned to the British 1st Airborne Division and 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade, this was at Arnhem and proved to be A Bridge Too Far.

Our tour begins at Eindhoven and Nijmagen where the two US Airborne Divisions, the 2nd 'All American' and 101st 'Screaming Eagles', landed during the day on Sunday 17th September 1944 to capture and secure their bridges.  We move on to Arnhem where we tour the battlefield on foot beginning with the Battle for Arnhem Bridge, culminating with the Battle for Oosterbeek and the withdrawal.

During the tour we will stop off at two museums: The Museum Wings of Liberation at Eindhoven and the Airborne Museum 'Hartenstien' at Arnhem.  We will also visit the British CWGC Cemetery at Oosterbeek.
